Week Four: Space and Time in Dance Theater.
Based primarily on The Viewpoints, this class will deconstruct and focus detailed attention on the uses of space and time in order to develop a personal, yet universally understood sense of time and place in your work. We will explore the space between bodies, objects, countries and ideas in order to fashion a sense of community that has tension, vibrancy and meaning. We will explore the possibilities of time and consider how time can express the passage of a moment, a day, or a life and we will play with time in order to push at the boundaries of comfort and expectation.
Class Description:
This class explores the qualities of released and off-balance dancing while daring students to find disparate qualities of stillness and explosion. Students are encouraged to develop an individual style driven by their internal life and the specificity of their bodies. By researching movement tasks as opposed to recreating shapes, students will begin to solve kinesthetic problems in a profound and personal way. We will focus on becoming compelling and magnetic performers, and working within a broad range of movements: vigorous, athletic, gestural and theatrical.
