Mariana Bekerman-Taglienti

About Me:

I am originally from the Ukraine and have been strongly influenced and surrounded by art from the moment I was born to the present. While my father's art collection of Russian Avant Garde and Stage Design filled up our walls - from the ceiling and worked its way down to the floor- I recall my constant need for movement. Hence, I chose the struggling yet often, fulfilling career of the passionate dance choreographer.

For the past eight and a half years, after completing my dance training and working as a dancer and choreographer (see website), I have been running an emerging modern dance company, the Mariana Bekerman Dance Company. Together with my dancers, I create works that fuse various dance styles of ballet, modern, vogue, amongst others, while simultaneously touching on human experiences and conditions. Always influenced by present life experiences and surroundings, in the end, I hope to make viewers aware of the importance to live humbly and harmoniously (obviously, not an easy task for us to do today since we experience so much disruption and commotion in our present world). I guess if I had the option, I would have much preferred to exist during the 60's (in fact, I believe I may have as I am a believer of reincarnation (:>)).

Besides dance, I am a woman who is happily married and who loves to live life to its fullest (at least, this is what I aim for). Although no children yet, I have an amazing gray sphinx cat (pure breed) who I cannot get enough of (trust me, you wouldn't either). I love to travel, eat lavish foods, visit galleries, meet interesting people, and basically, in the end, may have chosen the wrong career for the lifestyle I would ideally enjoy. Now, its important to inform you that I am by far a snob nor do I wish to be surrounded by snobs either, I just am not the kind of gal who would choose to live on the street for her art (nor should anyone). I hope some day dance will be as impressive and in demand as today's modern sports are to the general public (I just don't get why Alex Rodriguez gets paid more than a soloist at ABT, for instance (nothing personal Alex).

I am sure there is a lot more to me such as I often like to act on impulse (again, I blame this on dance as well :>)), am spiritually in tuned, and am in constant need to work on myself in order to achieve patience, to keep love in my life, avoid judging others (so hard sometimes, no?)and all the other mandatory qualities necessary to live the humble life I so promote through my dance.
