Like everyone else (at least it seems), I am completely obsessed with AMC's Mad Men. It has style, compelling characters, and an interesting take on a bygone era that goes far beyond easy nostalgia.
This week's episode, Season 3 Ep 3, My Old Kentucky Home, had an incredible scene that transcended the era: when Trudy and Pete got up to dance.
Of course, they were wearing early 60's outfits, dancing to older music, and danced in a way that was so out of style, they were unironically doing the charleston. And yet, as they were dancing, their faces lit up in a way I had never seen them in two seasons of faithful viewership. Dancing together and loving to dance turned the unlikeable whiny princess Trudy and her weasely husband Pete into real humans that I couldn't help but love. For a moment, and, it's not as if they broke character, really, but I could see this energy from the actors...their faces were saying, "Yes! I love this part! This is my favorite part of the episode!" and it very easily became mine as well.
